Winter Game Night
The 4th Annual Winter Game Night records largest crowd yet. Members had great fellowship participating in activities such as toilet paper snowman, pantyhose reindeer, stocking relay and gummy whipped cream fishing. Prior to the game night, some of the members brought in food for a pot-luck dinner to kick off the evening's festivities.

Serving at the Filling Station
Living to Serve. 16 FFA members from Logan Elm lived out the FFA Motto by volunteering to serve at the "Filling Station" in Circleville. The first shift helped prepare the food that would be served that evening. The second shift served the food and helped clean up. The "Filling Station" is housed in Circleville where every Sunday evening they provide a message, music and a meal to people in the community. The FFA members had a great time being able to serve those less fortunate then themselves that evening. This was the first of three times that the Logan Elm FFA will serve this year.

Thanksgiving Baskets
The Logan Elm FFA and FCCLA held the 4th annual Thanksgiving Baskets food drive. Once again the support of the students and staff at Logan Elm was tremendous. Over 60 complete baskets were collected that were then donated to the Food Pantry in Laurelville. Each basket had a gift card included that were made possible by donations from the Methodist Church in Kingston and E&R Enterprises.

State Leadership Night
National FFA Convention
Several FFA members traveled to Louisville, Kentucky for the National FFA Convention. We traveled by Blackhawk Charter. Members participated in several activities including the Buckeye Bash, Leadership workshops, convention sessions, and Merango Caves.
The highlight of Convention was witnessing three FFA members receive their American Degrees. This is the highest award that can be earned in the FFA Organization. Cole Clark, Kristin Elliott and Jake Topping all earned this award. |
Pumpkin Show Parade
Logan Elm FFA members participated in the Circleville pumpkin Show Parade of Queens on Wednesday Night. Officers led the float in official dress while several members rode on the float with signs supporting their fellow FFA members AnnMarie Covell and Carlee Stewart who represented Logan Elm and the FFA in the Queens Contest.

Pumpkin Pushers
Logan Elm FFA Members once again served as the official "Pumpkin Pushers" for the Circleville Pumpkin Show's Giant Pumpkin weigh-in. This event if the kick-off event of the Circleville Pumpkin Show each year. Growers from the community strive to grow and weigh-in the heaviest pumpkin each year. FFA members, Adam, Trey, Shae, Ryan, Zach and Dom helped unhook the pumpkins from the straps and move them around the stage.

4th Grade Pickaway County Ag Day
The Logan Elm FFA chapter sent its officers and a few of its members Friday, September 27th to participate at the Pickaway County 4th Grade Ag Day. Along with the help of Westfall’s and Teays Valley’s FFA members, the students worked at stations presenting farm animals, machinery, wildlife and farm safety. Many students guided classes of students around the OCU campus to the stations and some presentations in the gymnasium and some classrooms for powerpoints. The students consisted of all the schools around the Pickaway County area, including Logan Elm, Westfall, Teays Valley, New Hope, etc. The children loved the hands on interaction and presentations that they were exposed to. This event is to try and bring kids closer to the agriculture that they may not see everyday. We at the Logan Elm FFA chapter would like to thank everyone at the Pickaway County Soil and Water Department, OCU, and everyone that set aside their time to teach and interact with the FFA members and 4th graders.

Ag Olympics
The fourth Annual Ag Olympics was in September. After members were randomly assigned to four different groups they got to know each other and learned to work together by competing in building a human pyramid, the fruit loop blow relay race, a blindfolded obstacle course/relay race, a hay bale toss, ballon stomp and blind-folded musical bales. Members had great fun and fellowship.

District Officer Training
The first step in running for an office was to attend the District 7 FFA Officer training. 11 members aspiring for an officer position in the Logan Elm FFA for the coming year attended this event where they learned from State FFA Officers and Ag teachers from the district the ins and outs of being an officer.
FFA Members help the Pickaway County Chamber of Commerce
The Pickaway County Chamber of Commerce called on the Logan Elm FFA again this year to help with their annual dinner. FFA Members helped set up for the dinner during the day and were then invited to be guests at the dinner that evening. After the dinner, members helped with clean up.
FFA Community Breakfast Raises $850 for Scholarships
The Annual FFA Community Breakfast was again a success this year. Officers and members showed up at the school starting at 5am to begin preparing food. On the menu was sausage, pancakes and eggs. The breakfast was open to staff from Logan Elm and members of the community. Donations were accepted with all proceeds going to a scholarship fund for FFA seniors.
FFA Members help Kingston National Bank serve lunch
Kingston National Bank sponsored a luncheon and professional development opportunity for Agriculture members in the community. Members of the Logan Elm FFA helped with the event by serving food and helping clean up.
Winter Game Night with a Christmas Twist
FFA members were divided into teams randomly to compete in “Christmas” themed minute-to-win-it activities. Each team competed against each other and the clock with activities such as; Taste the Rainbow, Bobbing for gummy worms in whipped cream, guess the wrapped gift with the most bells, candy cane fishing, snow ball wreath toss, and candy cane nut stack. The teams then competed against each other in a snowman-making contest where members wrapped their teammates in toilet paper and then added a carrot nose, hat and buttons. They also had to create reindeer by blowing up balloons and stuffing them into panty hose on a teammates head. The night was finished up with Christmas Song/Movie charades and eating Christmas Cookies.

Thanksgiving Baskets
The Logan Elm FFA sponsored their 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Basket drive at Logan Elm High school this year. The entire school was involved in this project. Each homeroom was given a list of the non-perishable items that would make a Thanksgiving meal. They were then charged with collecting as many as they could, with the winning homeroom being awarded a donut party. The goal was to collect 32 baskets, one per homeroom. However, for the second year in a row, the students and staff at Logan Elm went above and beyond the goal. 64 total baskets were collected. A $10 gift card was also placed in each basket. The FCCLA co-sponsored the project this year by helping collect the baskets within their organization and also donated $100 in gift cards. The Mount Pleasant church in Kingston donated $320 in gifts cards, while the FFA supplied the remainder of the cards. "It is an amazing thing to help families throughout our district during the holiday season", commented Taylor Romine, the President of the Logan Elm FFA. Baskets were donated to families within the school district and also to the Food Pantry in Laurelville.
State Leadership Night
FFA Members from across our district converged on Amanda Clearcreek to learn valuable leadership lessons and skills from the Ohio FFA State Officer Team. Members had a good time and took many things from the night.

National FFA Convention
The Logan Elm FFA attended the National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY. The trip consisted of attending convention sessions, leadership workshops, a Buckeye Bash, and a fun park where members competed against each other in Laser Tag, Go Cart racing and various other games. The highlight of the trip came when Megan Dresbach, former graduate of the Logan Elm FFA earned her American Degree. This is the highest degree that can be earned by an FFA member.

Pumpkin Pushers
Logan Elm FFA members once again served as the official Pumpkin Pushers for the Circleville Pumpkin Show weigh in. Each year growers from around the area bring their giant pumpkin in to be weighed in the hopes of being crowned the largest pumpkin for the year. FFA members help move the pumpkins around during the event.

Ag Olympics
Fun, games and competition made the Ag Olympics night a success. The evening started with an FFA meeting followed by members separating into teams without talking and only making animal noises. FFA members then competed in a fruit loop relay race, hay bale toss, musical bales, water balloon toss, and human pyramids. The night was finished up with a large kickball game.

All-Alumni Reunion
Helping set up for the All-Alumni Reunion has become an annual thing for the Logan Elm FFA. Several members stayed after school and helped set up cover tables, carry chairs, hang banners, and do whatever else was asked of them.

4th Grade Ag Day
4th Grade students from across the county visited OCU to learn about Agriculture. Members of the Logan Elm FFA served as guides for the different classes throughout the day. Two members, Katherine and Carlee helped with one of the poultry stations.

Tackling Cancer Game
The Tackling Cancer Game in Pickaway County has been a huge success for several years. This year it was held at Logan Elm and the FFA stepped up and provided several activities for children to have fun with throughout the day, all while raising money for the Tackling Cancer fund. Thanks to Wolford Farms for supplying straw, the FFA created a large Straw Maze for kids to navigate. Members also constructed a 4-hole putt-putt course and two ponies were brought in for pony rides. FFA members worked throughout the day running the activities and provided a great experience for the kids.

2012-2013 News
State FFA Degree Recipients 2013
Kristin Elliott and Cole Clark earned their State FFA Degree this year from their hard work in their SAE program and FFA participation. They will be honored at the State FF Convention in May.
District Officer Training
FFA members wanting to run for an office position for this upcoming school year attended the District Officer training at Fairfield Union. The training was ran by the State Officers and Fairfield County Ag teachers. Each person went to the session of the office that they desire to be. This is the first step in becoming an officer. Candidates will now need to complete an application and participate in an interview process. One interview will be with the current senior officers and the second interview will be with a committee of Ag teachers from other schools. After the interviews, the committee will slate each office with a candidate that they deem the best fit.
FFA Members Teach 4th Graders About Soil Erosion
Kristin Elliott, Bree Salsbury, Daija Joseph Cole Clark traveled to Laurelville Elementary to discuss and demonstrate soil erosion to all of their 4th grade students. They shared a lesson, demonstrated wind erosion and led the students in an activity that demonstrated splash erosion. The 4th graders were able to execute the activity, collect data and graph their findings.

FFA Community Breakfast
The Logan Elm FFA recently held their Annual Community Breakfast where members of the community, area businesses, parents and Logan Elm School staff are invited to enjoy a breakfast for their continued support of the program. The FFA officers showed up at 5am with all other members that helped showing up at 5:30am. FFA members prepared a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs. We had close to $200 people in attendance for the breakfast. Donations were collected at the door. All total we raised $809.50 that will be donated to the Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.

Ohio Ag Net & OCJ Broadcast
Dale Minyo of Ohio Ag Net ran his broadcast from Logan Elm on Friday, February 15th. This was due to us winning the FFA Week Statewide Video Contest. Cole, Kristin and Rhiannon were interviewed on air and everyone was treated to a pizza party and custom designed t-shirts.

Logan Elm FFA Wins State Video Contest
Logan Elm FFA members recently submitted a video for the 2013 OHIO’S COUNTRY JOURNAL AND OHIO AG NET FFA WEEK VIDEO CONTEST. After all the submissions were in WE were chosen as the WINNER! Congratulations to everyone for all of their hard work. Enjoy the video below.
Winter Game Night
We held our Winter Game Night on December 20th. We started the evening by breaking up members into random groups so that everyone could get to know each other. The groups then competed in 9 different "minute to win it" games. When a group finished they had to be able able to recite each others names in their group. Anyone who cheated or had any other offense had to get up in front of everyone and either spell Mississippi with their rears or perform "I'm a little teapot". Once these games were over, members could play Just Dance, corn hole, or cards. There was also a cookout.

Christmas Adopt-a-Family Project
The FFA adopted 2 families in the school district to help at Christmas. After talking with the families, the Leadership class made a list of gifts for the kids and made tags to hang on our tree in the classroom. Members were then given the option to take a tag, purchase the gift and bring it back to school. Once all gifts were purchased, the Leadership class wrapped them all and made sure the families had the gift before Christmas.

FFA Sponsored "Thanksgiving Baskets"
The last part of the FFA motto is “living to serve”. The FFA recently sponsored a “Thanksgiving Baskets” project at the high school. Each of the 32 1st period classes received an empty basket with a list of items needed for a Thanksgiving meal and was challenged to complete at least one basket. Our goal was to provide 32 complete meals to families in our school district for Thanksgiving. The outpouring of generosity from the Logan Elm students and staff was tremendous during this project. When the dust cleared, a total of 65 baskets were turned in. Each basket will also have a $10 Kroger Gift Card for the family to put towards a turkey. These cards were purchased by the Logan Elm FFA, Mount Pleasant Church in Kingston, and E&R Enterprises. The bags were donated by Pickaway Ross. With so many baskets collected, we will be able to provide families in the district with a meal at Thanksgiving and again at Christmas. Mrs. Hamner's class donated the most, turning in 10 complete baskets. Mrs. Dorman's class was 2nd with 8 total baskets. Thank you to every student and staff member that donated to this project. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
National FFA Convention
28 FFA members from Logan Elm attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. During the opening ceremony convention session, members learned that now is the Time to Grow! They also learned from Olympic gold Medalist, Scott Hamilton, that the only true disability in life is a bad attitude. Members had time to explore the Convention Center career show and attend student workshops. They attended the Buckeye Bash and the Incredible Pizza Factory where we raced go carts and played other games.

Homecoming Parade
The FFA participated in the Annual Logan Elm Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally. The FFA was the only club represented in the event. Thanks to all FFA members that came onto the gym floor to be recognized. This was a great experience for the rest of the school to see that the FFA is for everyone in the school.
Ag Olympics
Over 50% of the Chapter was in attendance for the 2nd Annual Ag Olympics. After being split in to 4 teams the competitions involved tug-of-war, water balloon toss, relay race (3-legged race, sack race, and wheelbarrow race), blind-folded musical bales, and a hay bale toss.

Pickaway County 4th Grade Ag Day
Ohio Christian University was transformed into an Agriculture Center for a day for 4th graders across the county to learn about various areas of agriculture. Sixteen Logan Elm FFA members played an integral role in helping this event unfold. Members helped with presentations and served as group leaders.

Pod Patrol
22 members of the Logan Elm FFA participated in a "Pod Patrol" in conjunction with Minor Farms, Monsanto and Channel Seed. After a presentation by an agronomist, members went into the field looking for quality soybean plants. The goal was to find plants with the most lateral branches and pods per plant. After selecting their plant, members removed the pods and placed them in piles according to how many beans were in the pods. The purpose of events like these are for the company to find soybean varieties that consistently produce the most beans per plant. Teaming up with FFA Chapters is a great way for members to be exposed to this area of agriculture and learn more while having the opportunity to be involved in a service project.

FFA Camp
Five FFA members attend the 5th session at FFA Camp Muskingham. Campers participated in leadership activities, trapshooting, rifle shooting, boating, swimming, and numerous other events. Tyler Snyder was the Trap Shooting Camp Champion and Jake Topping was the Rifle Range Camp Champion.

Pickaway County Fair

State Degree Recipient 2012
Megan Dresbach earned her State FFA Degree from her hard work in her SAE program and FFA participation. SHe will be honored at the State FFA Convention in May.

Soil and Water Field Days
FFA members had the experience of teaching elementary students at the Saltcreek and Pickaway elementary schools.
Saltcreek - Megan Dresbach and Cole Clark taught students about the importance of soil conservation. They used a demonstration to show how soil erosion works and how easy it is for fertilizer and other chemicals to run off of fields. They also showed them how no-till can help prevent both of those things from occurring. Students had the opportunity to look at some equipment from W.D. Farms, Inc. and learn about their operation. Students were able to see a tractor/honey wagon/chisel plow set-up that is used to spread natural fertilizer on fields. Meleah Brumfield, Kristin Elliott and Zoe Turner ran a station titled, "Soil Made my Lunch". They showed student show everything they eat can be traced back to the soil. Students also had the opportunity to paint pictures using different soils from across the country.

FFA Parent-Member Banquet
The FFA held their Parent-Member Banquet on Thursday, May 10th. After a meal by Davidson's Catering members were recognized for degrees earned, scholastic achievement, and participation in CDEs. The new officer team was installed and we enjoyed watching the year-in-review video. Highlights included:

State FFA Convention
13 members attended the State FFA Convention. The day started with touring the campus of The Ohio State University. After sitting in on a lab class in the Animal Science building and looking into the one of the meat labs, students were able to watch a surgery in the large animal Vet Hospital and then take a tour of the Agricultural Engineering Building. Students then toured the Horseshoe after eating lunch at the Varsity Club. The campus tour concluded with touring the oval and visiting the library. The day concluded with witnessing Megan Dresbach receive her State FFA Degree at the last session of convention.
FFA Community Breakfast
The FFA held their annual Community Breakfast on Friday, March 30th. Members showed up at 5 am to start preparing a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs. We served over 100 community members from 6-8am. From donations, we raised $612.75 that will be donated to the Heart Center at Children's Hospital.
District Officer Training
Seven FFA members went to the District Officer training where they learned the specifics about being an officer. These 7 members are all planning on running for an officer for the upcoming school year. State Leadership Night
Several FFA members attend the State FFA Leadership night held at Amanda. The leadership sessions were ran by this years State FFA Officers.
Christmas Adopt-a-Family
This year the FFA adopted a local family to help for Christmas. Several members participated by selecting a tag from the tree and purchased the gift to bring back to be wrapped. Living to Serve is the last part of the FFA motto.
Thanksgving Baskets
FFA Officers and other members went shopping on Monday, November 21st and purchased groceries for a local family for Thanksgiving.
FFA Holds Canned Food Drive
The FFA held a non-perishable food drive amongst all Ag classes. All together we collected nearly 800 food items that were donated to the Laurelville Food Pantry. Congratulations to the 3rd period Environmental Science class for bringing in the most items and winning the pizza party.
FFA Members Ride in the Miss Pumpkin Show Parade
Several FFA members said, "What rain" to make a good showing for our Chapter in the Miss Pumpkin Show parade on Wednesday night. After standing in the rain and cold for over an hour, members were happy to see the rain quit for the parade. A special thank you goes to the following people. Cole Clark for the use of his truck, wagon and hay. W.D. Farms for allowing us to store the wagon in their shop. Kristin Elliott for her hard work on the sign. David Dresbach for putting the sign on the wagon and all other FFA members that help paint the sign and everyone that rode in the parade.

FFA Helps Set-up for the All-Alumni Reunion
FFA members help the Logan Elm Education Foundation set-up for the First Annual All-Alumni Reunion on Saturday, September 10th. Members helped set-up tables and chairs, hang banners, lay out shirts and everything else asked of them.
Officers Meet to Kick off the New Year
The Logan Elm FFA Officers met with their new advisor, Mr. King, at his home to discuss the upcoming year. The officers discussed goals and planned activities for the upcoming year.
